Our Torah teaches us to use an Ayin Tova or a good eye, and to be Dan Lkaf Zecut or to give the benefit of the doubt.  Positivity and optimism are very important to our ability to grow.

What is the PBS Shekels Program and why is it effective?

PBS stands for “Positive Behavior Support”. Research shows that when students receive a positive consequence, often referred to as reinforcement, it is a means by which teachers can increase the probability that a behavior will occur in the future. A negative consequence is a means by which the teacher can decrease the probability that a behavior will occur in the future” (study found on page 6 of the Perspectives & Resources section of the IRISCENTER website). Of course, due to it being necessary, students that misbehave receive negative consequences. But how about when a student does the right thing? What type of positive affirmations do they receive for their good behavior? Students need to receive something  tangible. Something that a kid can really buy into. And that's why we here at TJA have created the PBS Shekels Program. This accomplishes two unequivocally important things……

  1. It encourages students to do the right thing.

  1. For students, it creates a deep rooted association between doing the right thing and feeling good about it.

Prizes include:

As we continue to refine this program year after year, the results are truly remarkable. As we say here at TJA “It Pays to Behave”.
