Kriah / Hebrew

Reading and writing Hebrew with confidence

Kriah (Hebrew reading) and Kesiva (Hebrew writing) connect our students to their heritage and also strengthen language and thinking skills. The program meets each student at their level, tracks their progress, and gives plenty of time to practice at school and at home.

Kriah and Kesiva goals: fluency, writing proficiency, connection Curriculum overview: individualized, track progress, practice

Schedule

Every grade has a Kriah/Kesiva block within Jewish Studies. The exact schedule varies by grade.

Groups & Levels

Students work with a Kriah Buddy (K-5) or Chavrusa (Middle and High School) to stay accountable. Groups that reach their goals celebrate together.

Homework & Practice

Students take home practice materials. We ask parents to set aside regular practice time.

Assessment

We assess students three times a year and share results through progress reports and report cards.

Parental Involvement

How you can help at home

  • Practice at home. Encourage regular reading and help your child finish Kriah/Kesiva homework.
  • Read Hebrew together. Brachot at the Shabbos table and davening in shul are the best real-world practice.
  • Celebrate progress. Praise their effort and growth to build confidence.
